The concept of a strategic integrated business solution, combining geographic information systems (GIS) and business intelligence (BI) has been around for some time, but the reality is the development and implementation of computer aided design (CAD), GIS, 3D centric systems such as mine technical systems (MTS) e.g. drafting, surveying, rock engineering, etc. and business intelligence have followed separate development paths.
